Organization Description
Blue Lagoon Volunteering is a non-profit, non-governmental organization operating under the laws here in Peru. We have our residence housing, our English school and an eco-jungle farm which also serves as a recreation park. Volunteers can choose to teach or work on the eco-farm/recreo or both and are encouraged to stay at least one month. However, experience has shown that a two or three month stay is more benificial for the volunteer and those that they serve.

You will only be asked to volunteer your time 5 hours per day 5 days a week because we have experienced that the best results happen when volunteers have time to explore the endless beauties of the Blue Lagoon and it's surrounding area. You will be given a private room and live with myself and my Peruvian wife in our river house minutes from the lagoon, or you can stay at the eco-farm recreo. You will be served 3 meals per day and experience Peruvian cuisine of this region. However, a specific diet is available on request. You will also have access to a full kitchen, have hot water and internet. You will be provided with unlimited access to the natural resources of this region and have the opportunity to obtain a wealth of information about how to grow and cultivate medicinal plants as well as tropical fruits and trees. Ayawaska Healing Ceramonies are available also. You will also have access to our English as a Second Language Students within the community and have the opportunity to study Spanish as well. Myself-the director has a PhD. in Psychology and a Master’s in Education and am personally at your service during our entire stay. Recreational activities include horseback riding, swimming, hiking, soccer, volleyball, visiting the various waterfalls, fishing, camping, boating, bird watching, orchid display, butterfly collecting, kayaking, and much more. Volunteering in the Jungle was something very special for me. In my time off I spend everyday hiking and taking photos. I must have taken 500 photos. The lagoon is very close to the homestay. One day we took a boat ride around the entire lagoon. We also were able to go fishing and catch then cook my own Telapia from the Eco-farm where I worked. There were many waterfalls that we hiked to. Me and another volunteer spent most of my mornings working side by side with a very healthy 80 year old man named Don Juan Garcia. He shared his life’s experiences in the Jungle with me. I helped maintain various fruit trees and ate fruit that I had never seen before. We spend about one hour every day in the eco-garden where we cleaned around the vegetables and brought water up from one of the...
I am currently volunteering with Blue Lagoon Volunteering. My experience has been great. This part of the Amazon Jungle makes me feel like I have gone back in time to a less modernized world. I am working on the Eco-Farm and learing much about tropical plants and fruits and working with a variety of animals. I am also looking forward to having four English as a Second Language students starting next week. This will help me continue to increase my English Skills while helping others.
