Organization Description
We operate in Kisumu, Kenya, at the Korando Educational Center. This non-formal school is giving free education to 200 children, and sponsor older ones to go to public secondary school and even university. It also offers a home to most of them who are orphans or coming from unstable families.
Our goal is to help them provide a better education to those children, empower boys and girls by giving them the skills they need to overcome poverty and to make their voice heard. For that, we are currently building a “dome home” in order to receive volunteers from all over the world to help the current teachers, ensure that pupils receive more personal attention and tutelage, give extra attention to the ones who need more care and design extra curricular activities to raise their awareness about health, responsible sexual behavior, woman empowerment, environmental conservation and much more. We will then rebuild their current temporary-built school in order to provide them with better learning conditions.

We also want the Korando Educational Center as well as the children they take care of to achieve financial stability by strengthening their agriculture and bring other alternative.

This project shows that even with nothing you can have a huge impact. Changing the future of hundreds of kids coming from one of the poorest region of one of the poorest county in the world is priceless. No one needs a reason to help. We have been lucky enough to be born and raised in a country where education, safety and food is not even a question. Our most basic needs are satisfied to their maximum and beyond, to the point that we forget about the ones who have to fight for a drop of water and do not even know how to spell their own name. We mustn't forget about them. And we shall do something about it.

Great experience, gave me a chance to see Kenya in an intimate way, gave me a chance to see how I can participate in promoting social justice programs in Kenya. Great children, staff and goals. Thank you to Volunteer Alliance for helping me achieve my volunteering goal.
When I left I really felt like I was part of the family. I regret not to ave had so much time to spend with the kids, but it was a priceless human experience that gave me the opportunity to discover a new culture, a new country, a beautiful project and people that I won't forget! I will return.
I have been volunteering in East Africa for over 12 years specifically in orphanages and HIV initiatives. I was introduced to Cheap Impact through a mutual friend; while in Kisumu, I went to visit the project, Korando Educational Center to see what they were up to. I was so pleasantly surprised; enough to unpack and stay with them for a while to help out. The team working there are so committed and focused on helping the local people. Cheap Impact's concept of creating a sustainable supply of volunteers for this 200 person orphanage is both unique and dynamic. The partnership with Korando, conceptually is awesome. These children are extremely vulnerable and Cheap Impact is making a huge difference in their lives. I have worked with many such organizations, but there are two...
