Organization Description
Aspire Training & Education, was founded in 2012 by me Samnang Sean, a local Cambodian, who recognized the urgent need to help the many destitute and orphaned children living in this country. This situation was brought about because Cambodia’s education and health care systems were completely destroyed during the Khmer Rouge Genocide and Cambodia has been unable to make significant gains in rebuilding it because of the subsequent 2 decades of long civil war. Now corruption is rampant and Cambodia’s education and health care systems remain in shambles. Siem Reap itself is one of the poorest areas in Cambodia with over 75% of locals living in poverty.

Our organisation provides 24-hour care to 25 children who currently live in our orphanage and support to another 75 children that live in the community and come to our school to learn . The children who have received a scholarship at ASPIRE come from backgrounds of extreme poverty and deprivation. They range in age from 4 to 16 years old. Many have never been to school and are desperate for safe living in the community. We provide three meals a day and ensure all the children attend a government school. In addition, we run our own classes in Khmer reading and writing as well as English language lessons and computer skills. We also believe in preserving the Khmer culture so we teach children traditional Khmer dances and the art of playing Khmer musical instruments. Our staff are trained in good childcare practice and management skills. We aim to equip them both socially and academically to take up a constructive place in the future of Khmer society.

The schedule for volunteer work is 4 hours a day for 5 days a week from Monday to Friday, in the morning from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM and afternoon from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM to teach (English, Computer skills, drawing, painting, building, cleaning, gardening and collecting tree fruits).

The volunteers have a house to themselves that consists of two bedrooms (with mosquito nets), two toilets, a shower and a kitchen. For bedding, we provide a mattress, a blanket and a pillow. There is A/C in the bedrooms and a fan in the kitchen. We only ask for 12 US dollars per night to pay for the electricity bill, food, wi-fi, washing machine and water. We cook for you 2 meals per day (lunch and dinner), this is real traditional Cambodian food that we cook for the kids in the orphanage as well.

Currently we have no sponsorship, making the provision of basic necessities very difficult. This is an NGO (Non Governmental Program) so we don't have any support from the government. We are fully reliant on visitors and volunteers, who come and give donations to support the children. Also we request that all volunteers make a donation or raise money through " GOFUNDME " to support the construction materials to build the dormitory project for the children at ASPIRE.

When you arrive by plane to Siem Reap we can get a tuk-tuk driver to come pick you up, but we need to pay for it so we ask you to pay 10 $ for transportation.

If you would like to visit the Angkor Wat temples we have our own tours that help us to pay for some of the necessities of the orphanage:

Angkor Wat temples tour (small tour $15 US / large tour $20 US)

We would love your help at our orphanage as it would mean a lot to the children as well as the organization. We look forward to meeting you!
