Organization Description
The African Child Care Center is a pre-primary school center for orphan and poor children, low income families and youth programs in the Dunda area of Bagamoyo District of the Pwani Region of Tanzania. The focus of the school is to provide quality education and health care programs to students of disadvantaged families, students who ordinarily would become victims of poverty.

The African Child Care Center currently caters for 85 children, who attend classes from Monday to Friday. The center has 7 staff members (4 teachers, 1 cook, 1 security personale and the Project Director). Through donor funding and tuition (where possible), the school plans to expand its program to include youth and adult literacy and primary education in the future.

The African Child Care Center recommends that volunteers apply for a CTA visa and offers free transportation. Please contact your host, Jimmy, for more information about these practicalities

The ACC is a fantastic place to volunteer! I really enjoyed the time that I spent working there! The school is very well organised and has had a lot of volunteers in the past so they have great systems for placing volunteers and making sure that you have a very enjoyable time while you are working there. Jimmy and Sara who run the organisation are amazing people. They have great english and enjoy looking after volunteers and showing you around the town. I didn't teach classes when I was there because it was only for a week. However I was able to help with the website. It is a small school in quite a small town. But the people there are very friendly. It is a great spot if you want to get away from the really touristy areas. I stayed at the Bagamoyo Country Club. It is...
Jimmy is doing really amazing work with the ACC. The experience changed my life and I'm so happy to have met him and the children at the school. Please feel free to contact me about my experience. I have come back to the ACC since I first volunteered in 2007 and I continue to stay in contact with Jimmy. His living accomodations feel very safe and his family is very welcoming. Highly recommended!
