How does it work?

Volunteer Alliance members create profiles that allow them to connect with one another. These profiles are listed on VolunteerAlliance.org.

Community based organizations can use their profiles to promote their projects, fundraise for specific needs, recruit volunteers, write reviews of volunteers, post photos and videos of their work, and more.

Volunteers can upload photos, keep in touch with other volunteers and organizations with whom they’ve worked, write reviews of fellow volunteers and  organizations, post blogs and journals, and keep a record of their volunteer experiences.

Both CBOs and volunteers can search for one another on a variety of advanced search criteria like location, skills, interests, cost, type of project, etc.

This innovative and unique platform empowers volunteers and organizations alike to achieve unparalleled results and experiences with transparency, collaboration, and reciprocity.

Why Volunteer Alliance?

Before now, several barriers to sustainable volunteerism have hindered the potential impact of the natural partnership between volunteers and community based organizations.

What are those barriers?

Lack of information about volunteer opportunities

Before Volunteer Alliance, there was no comprehensive database of international volunteer opportunities posted by the organizations themselves with unfiltered volunteer reviews. These days, reading consumer reviews is a critical part of making informed decisions about where to eat, what to buy, what movies to see, and more. Why not have a review platform for volunteer opportunities? It is just as important (maybe even more important!) that you know exactly what you’re getting into as a volunteer, and what better way to find out than straight from the mouth of other volunteers who have gone before you.

Mismatched needs and skills

Because CBOs can create their own profiles (or knowledgeable volunteers can do it for them), Volunteer Alliance makes sure that each volunteer can find the ideal match. Our search function allows you to explore volunteer opportunities with community based organizations based on location, cost of volunteering, length of stay, and your skill set, interests, and past experience. CBOs can post exactly the type of work they will offer, the volunteers they need, and the support they provide.

Prohibitive costs of volunteering through a placement organization

Because of the minimal amount of information and support previously available to them, many international volunteers have had to turn to placement organizations who often charge up to several thousand dollars to place a volunteer with a community based organization for stays as short as two weeks with little flexibility and choice. Volunteer Alliance, by giving CBOs and volunteer direct access to one another, removes the need for the middle man and saves you money.

Difficulty in maintaining communication and continuing impact after volunteer placement

International volunteers often return from their work abroad with new ideas and perspectives and a fervent desire to continue to support and sustain the project with which they worked. Unfortunately, there has been very little ability for them to do so. Volunteer alliance fosters an online community of collaboration through continued communication. Our social network enables truly sustainable volunteerism that allows the volunteer and community based organization to stay in touch and support one another through positive reviews, networking, and enriched web content and presence through blogs, journals, images, and videos.

2. Meaningful – contribute in a meaningful way by offering your skills as a volunteer
3. Collaborative – make a lasting difference before, during and after you volunteer to your organization and other organizations in the Volunteer Alliance community.

For Community Based Organizations

Volunteer Alliance connects community based organizations directly with international volunteers. Volunteer Alliance is not a placement organization and we charge no fees for volunteers. What this means is that more volunteers are available to volunteer and more community based organizations are able to accept volunteers.

Volunteer Alliance is a community of skilled volunteers. Volunteer Alliance lets community based organizations choose the volunteers that they host. Match the volunteer to the skills needed!

Even without hosting a volunteer, Volunteer Alliance gives community based organizations access to potential fundraising and online resources to develop and grow their organization.

For Volunteer Placement Organizations

Volunteer Alliance is a community of international volunteers. Volunteer placement organizations are encouraged to create a profile for their organization to connect with these volunteers.

Some volunteers prefer volunteer placement organizations because of the additional support they provide. Volunteer Alliance is a great way to connect with these individuals.
